Before-you-sell checklist: certification, duty, trademark and payment by country
Pick a product and a market to get what to check before you sell, on one page. It shows first whether a mandatory condition blocks the market, and every row comes with what to do and a link to the official source.
Each regulatory note was checked against the official government or legal source for that product group and country (or region). Rules that apply only to that HS code or a product trait (easy to miss) are listed too, each with its official source and the date it was checked. The duty row links the country’s official tariff schedule with Korea’s trade agreements, and for the US it shows the duty for that product (12.5% in total for most Korean goods; 50% or 25% under Section 232 for steel, aluminium and copper goods). Trademark, payment, timing and re-export hub rows appear only where they apply to that country. Conditions that block the market until an approval or registration passes (for example, an EU-listed plant for pet food with animal ingredients) are marked separately at the top.
- If I follow this checklist, can I sell? It is a starting point. It is not legal or tax advice, and rules change. Before you sell, read the official sources and confirm with a local authority, your importer or an expert.
- What does “Must pass before selling” mean? It is an approval, registration or listing without which you cannot sell in that market. If it applies, check it before any other preparation; if it is hard to meet, start with the next market that has no such condition.
- Is the duty rate exact? It is guidance at the 4-digit HS level. Check the rate for your exact tariff line (6 to 10 digits) in the official schedule, and claim an FTA rate with proof of Korean origin.
- What if a sanctions warning appears? TradeGraph leaves sanctioned or export-controlled countries out of its recommendations. Before you quote, check that your HS code is not on the control list at Yestrade (Korea’s trade security agency) and ask your bank whether it will clear the payment.
